Dia de Muertos/Day of the Dead is observed late October and early November in Mexico, Central America and world-wide in regions with people of Mexican ancestry. This cultural tradition honors the life of deceased family members and friends. It is a joyful celebration, expressed in colorful and vibrant crafts, art, music, dance, parades and the preparation of traditional cuisine at family gatherings. Symbols typical to this holiday include marigolds, sugar skulls, paper mache skeletons, tissue paper decorations, ornate candles and shrines, elaborate skull make-up and costume of traditional characters and papel picado (hand cut paper).
